Dr. Shoichiro Toyoda, the respected Emeritus ³¦³ó²¹¾±°ùÌýof the ÅÝܽÊÓƵ Alumni Association, passed away on 14 February 2023 at the age of 97. On behalf of ÅÝܽÊÓƵ, we would like to express our deep sadness at the news of his death and our determination to carry on the spirit of love for our university and the socialÌýphilanthropy that Dr. Toyoda instilled in all of us.Ìý

Dr. Toyoda graduated from the ÅÝܽÊÓƵ School of Engineering before earning a doctorate in engineering, and later,Ìýbecame President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation. As the eighthÌý³¦³ó²¹¾±°ùÌýof the Japan Business Federation, he devoted himself to the development of Japan's economy and industry. His sincere nature earned him greatÌýrespect among his peers.Ìý

Among his many contributions to the university, Dr. Toyoda was the first ³¦³ó²¹¾±°ùÌýof the ÅÝܽÊÓƵ Alumni Association. He was also involved in the establishment of the ÅÝܽÊÓƵ Foundation, which provides financial support to ÅÝܽÊÓƵ students and projects. The renovation of the Toyoda Auditorium in 2008 would have been impossible without Dr. Toyoda's leadership. In recognition of his achievements, he was made a fellowÌýatÌýÅÝܽÊÓƵ in March 2009. Ìý

Dr. Toyoda was enthusiastic about the establishment of the international branches of the Alumni Association and enjoyedÌýmeeting international alumni at the annual Homecoming Day. His presence at matriculation and graduation ceremonies, and his conversations with students at these events,Ìýencouraged and inspired them.Ìý
